I am neurotic, He is faithful

December 8, 2015

The last month has been packed with many conversations about sin, foolishness and immaturity. To be more specific, these conversations are centered around confessing my sin, foolishness and immaturity.

Sometimes when we confess our sin to our friends, we are surprised to find out that they are human (shocking, I tell you). They don’t always have the answer to every struggle, confusion or doubt we might have. Sometimes, they default to the very human response of “gee, that sounds hard. I don’t know what to tell you. I guess I’ll be praying for you then.”

How horrible of them, admitting they don’t know everything and promising to commit to intercessory prayer to the Almighty for me.

Sarcasm aside, that is really hard for me; “that” being a response lacking in resolution or practical advice. I like solutions more than listening ears and comforting hugs. I don’t value prayer enough. And if I can’t find a solution or a “fix” to all my ills, then I can slide into neurotic panic.

So I keep coming back to this verse, over and over.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9

He is faithful.

He is faithful.

He is faithful.

I can rest when I know that He is the resolution and the solution. When I know that He has forgiven me and cleansed me. My friends don’t have to have all the answers. I don’t have to fix everything in my life right this second.

He is faithful.
